The Wall is massive structure inspired by Hadrian's wall, that separates the Seven kingdoms and apparently the Wildlings; it runs across the north from coast to coast. Contrary to the purpose of "The Wall", Hadrian's wall was built in attempt to keep Barbarian tribes abate. "The Wall" in Game of Thrones is kept and guarded by the Night's watch, in patrol the Wall and keep the wildlings from entering the Seven Kingdoms. At Hadrian's Wall, Roman guards patrolled, controlled migrations and prevented raids by the Barbarians of the North.  [4]
